Auto Insurance Affected by Gas Prices

Written on March 31, 2011 by Milton Reyes

Rising gas prices may end up affecting auto insurance rates. According to the article “Will Rising Gas Prices Cause a Small-Car Book?” by Jonathan Welsh on The Wall Street Journal, people are looking to more fuel-efficient cars as gas prices creep up.
A similar trend happened in 2008 when demand increased so many for smaller cars and hybrids that used car prices were matching that of newer cars. Used car insurance and car insurance for smaller vehicles is typically cheaper so consumers who go this route are saving money on numerous fronts.
Americans in general associate smaller, more efficient cars with tougher economic times so overall car makers wait for higher gas prices or an economic downturn to push the sale of their smaller cars.
Kelley Blue Book, which keeps track of resale values and other industry data through a Market Intelligence survey, reports that economic struggles and the growing concern over gas prices pushes new and used-car owner to proactively change the type of car they are driving. Read more…

What option of debt relief will you choose?

Written on March 31, 2011 by admin

In the current financial crisis with high unemployment, it is not surprising that so many people need help with credit cards. If you find yourself desperate to understand how to get debt relief, you can know about the three options below. You can get a lot of useful information on debt relief companies by consulting on consumer business, complaints, or rip off sites that have archives of dissatisfied customers – just look within these websites for the company or institute that you are researching.

Initially, you may want to consider negotiating with the lenders by yourself. Make a simple monthly budget (income over expenditure) and submit to your creditors. If you are truthful about it, your lenders will see that this is not a matter of you who do not want to pay, that’s the reason you can not pay while maintaining adequate food, shelter, clothing and transportation. Even creditors know that you can not repay them if you do not eat, have a place to live, or clothing and a method for getting to work. Read more…

Beat The Odds and Save Money by Doing It Yourself

Written on March 27, 2011 by Cheryl Rankins

So were inundated with many thousands of advertisements every day.  Almost everywhere we go and everything we do involves ads and its really hard to get away from it.

Here are just a few of the ads you will experience today:

  • Television ads in your living room.
  • Radio and billboard ads while driving.
  • Website ads while browsing the Internet.
  • Mobile ads while using your phone.

Alongside all these ads you will also see signage ads everywhere!  Store signs when driving down the road, placemat ads when dining out, packaging ads when shopping for anything, etc., etc., etc.

Despite what we may like to believe these ads strongly effect not only the way we shop, but also the way we think!  Think about it If this were not true, marketing would not be a multi-billion dollar industry.

Buying solutions

Lets assume you want to start your own seeds for your garden this year.  How would you go about it?  What would be the first step you would take in finding a solution that delivers the results youre looking for?  Chances are you would go to your local hardware and/or lawn and garden center looking to purchase a seed starting solution and Im sure you would find something that would help you start seeds.

The truth is, unless we force ourselves to think of creative solutions, we will always end up at the store paying more for a solution someone else created and marketed to us!

Creating solutions

If you havent already picked up on this, I like to stick-it-to-the-man whenever possible.  Sometimes thats a blessing and other times its a curse!

Dont worry in this example its a blessing.

Consider the following seed starting solution that uses free materials found around the house or somewhere close by.

  • 3 bales of straw
  • 1 piece of plexiglass
  • Dirt

Arrange the 2 bales of straw horizontally against the south wall of your home.  Arrange the 3rd bale parallel to your home at the far end of the other bales creating a box.  Fill the box with dirt (only up to the foundation, do not pile dirt against your siding.)  Plant your seeds.  Put the plexiglass over the box.

You have just created a greenhouse to start your seeds in for free.  Water it several times each day and enjoy the proceeds.

The challenge

The point is stop automatically thinking you need to buy consumer solutions and force yourself to think creatively about alternative DIY solutions that save you money.

Next time you think you need to buy something I challenge you to think of how you can do it yourself.  Make sure to let us know what you did in the comments.

Here, Ill start.  Instead of buying stoppers to go behind the tires of our pop-up camper I used pieces of wood instead.

For more reading on this topic I suggest the book Early Retirement Extreme by my friend Jacob Lund Fisker.

Estate agents have never been known as one of the best loved professions in the UK, and many people joke about how wary they are of estate agents. However, is seems that many people actually are not huge fans of people in this profession and this has been reflected in recent complaints figures that have been released by the Financial Ombudsman, Christopher Hamer.

According to Hamer the number of complaints that were made last year against estate agents in the UK soared to their highest level since records began two decades ago.
