Syracuse hoping for remodeling of Target

Written on September 23, 2010 by Julia Woodard

The primary competitor for Walmarts and Kmarts here in Syracuse is Target. Shoppers here are pleased to have Target in town with its bright appearance, large selection of products and good prices. Now there is hope the makeover of the hometown Targets will be followed up here.

Bob Niedt of The Post-Standard, http://syracuse.com, has written an article titled “Target is remaking its hometown stores and Syracuse wonders: Will this market see the updo?” wherein he has reported that Target is remaking its hometown stores, and more than likely also has an eye toward eventually remaking all or most of its portfolio.   In this article Bob Niedt has reported that Target has redesigned more than 25 Target stores in the Twin Cities metro area of Targets hometown of Minneapolis. The goal of this has been to further deliver one-stop shopping convenience for customers. Among the new changes are increased food selection which offers almost as many categories as are found in SuperTarget. And the new shopping experience is made more enjoyable by wider aisles and more interactive displays.

The newly designed stores also offer a more interesting shopping experience in the beauty department which now has softer lighting with curved fixtures and interactive screens which helps guests select the right beauty products for their individual needs, Target has reported. And in the home department there are wider aisles and lower product fixtures which offers easier navigation and enables guests to see more of the department at a glance. The shoe department has also been improved with improved product visibility and improved guest comfort by adding more seating and mirrors. The electronics department has also been improved with a more interactive environment with video games now displayed in a manner which allows guests to browse and to try games at their convenience.

Annette Miller, SVP merchandising for Target has said “Target developed these concepts in response to guest feedback. This is one of the many ways we’re evolving our store design to deliver one-stop shopping and convenience for our guests.”   Bob Niedt seems to feel these changes may be coming to the Syracuse area Target too. These improvements by Target in Syracuse would be welcomed by the Syracuse community in order to help with the economic development of this region of New York state.
