Written on May 20, 2011 by Julia Woodard
Getting free Netflix is possible if you sign up for a 1-month free trial with Netflix (NLFX). I have been using Netflix for almost two years now, and I sometimes wonder what Id do without it for my entertainment fix. Depending on my schedule and mood, I can choose to receive DVDs by mail, or watch many great movies and TV series through their instant streaming. Before you sign up for a Netflix free trial, read this review to find out more about the pros and cons of Netflix.
Netflixs Growing Popularity
Netflix is a hugely popular DVD rental company in the U.S., well-known for its value-for-money online subscription service. By offering a new customers a free Netflix trial, they are hoping those who sign up for the trial will end up being a customer. With over 23 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, they are proving themselves to be ahead of the competition. In fact, they have added 3.3 million customers in just the first 3 months of 2011. While subscribers are dropping over at Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA), Netflix is becoming increasingly popular.

I would say that the web streaming aspect of Netflix is a winning point for me. For a low cost, theres no limit on how many shows you can watch. Why spend more money on a DVD when you can watch it digitally at a much lower cost?
As for its cons, Netflix doesnt have too many. If you want to watch shows or movies through instant streaming, you should have decent Internet speed, otherwise it would affect the quality of what you are watching. Also, if you rent their DVDs by mail, theres a turnaround time of around 3 days 1 day to return it, 1 day for Netflix to process it, and 1 day for it to be mailed to you.
Also, since Netflix isnt cable TV, its new shows arent really that brand new. Two pay TV services, Starz and Showtime, have both announced that Netflix subscribers will no longer be able to watch any of the series that are first running on cable, such as Californication and Dexter after the current deal ends this summer. But to Netflixs credit, they have managed to up the ante. Netflix said early this month that it had acquired streaming rights to Mad Men, a very popular series showing on cable channel AMC. It had also acquired the rights to House of Cards, a new series starring actor Kevin Spacey, even before it shows on any cable channel.
If Netflix continues to improve on its offerings and to go after shows not yet seen on cable, Im sure this is just the beginning of greater things to come from Netflix.
